Improve your Digital Audio – Using Music Software and your PC

After years of building my personal digital music collection, I can only tell you it is a thing of beauty that brings me pleasure each and every day. I have moved past; losing a CD binder of music to theft, mishandling, forgetful friends who remember to borrow but forget to return… And etc. I now sleep with comfort knowing when I wake up, my music and one of my most prized possessions is protected from damage or other errors that occur over time. I also enjoy the added security of simply backing up all my digital media and documents with a few clicks of the mouse, instead of duplicating thousands of CD’s.

Using your computer and a digital media player (which is free music playback software like iTunes and Windows Media Player) It is extremely simple to: Build a digital music collection that boasts both size and organized simplicity. Gradually develop your few dozen CD’s into a musical archive that will expand continuously from now until your dying day. Capture a life-time of diversity and periods to pass on to your next generation. Possess a rare jewel of musical artists who have performed throughout the soundtrack of your lifespan, a collection of instant + automated selection.

Behold, a music collection of perfection!

With today’s technology, you can find digital music everywhere. Of course you can find it at electronic hardware stores, but the easiest and most practical place to find it is the World Wide Web. Don’t get me wrong, going to the record store and picking up the latest album from your favorite band online! The way Music software has progressed over the past few years, many sites now allow you to download music, and many offer free music software to advertise for a specific product or service, or to gain popularity. However, using the internet as a convenient tool requires the understanding of a few basic concepts for using the computer to download music.

The hardware required is: You guessed it, your PC or Laptop! It should have a minimum of 128 MB RAM if you want good quality audio. But if you’re purchasing a new computer, or have a recently purchased computer you do not need to worry about that, because they are built with much more today.

A Hard Disk Drive with at least 2 GB free space is recommended. This is relative to roughly one thousand MP3’s. A computer’s storage space is one of those things that you can never have enough of, so the more Hard Dive space the better. Though almost all of the motherboards out today support audio, for accurate audio output you may need to think of installing an additional audio and/or a graphics card, which will do the audio some well deserved justice.

For internet downloads to run the way they should, and before you get frustrated over slow downloads just save yourself the trouble and get a high speed modem, or DSL. Dial-up just does not cut it anymore, high speed internet is almost 50 times faster. With the capability of doing your work in fractions of the time that you would with Dial up. Digital music can be enjoyed at higher sample rates in much less time than it would take with a dial up modem. But remember, the higher the sampling rates/quality of audio; the more space required. Even MP3’s are an obstacle for dial-up. If you are thinking about downloading music then an internet speed around 512 Kbps is recommended.

While laptops come standard with inbuilt speakers, good sound quality PC speakers are a possibility from popular companies such as: JBL, Sony, Yamaha but the best of all has to be Bose. Desktop PC’s usually come with bundled speakers, but don’t expect professional quality.

For the Software part of the PC, if you have a Windows Operating System, at least Windows 98 then that will work for you just fine. Macs work great too. I have not used anything but OS X, which works fantastic, I must add. As for OS’s prior to v. 10, I have heard from many people working with V. 9 without too many real problems, but keep in mind your best option is to upgrade to the latest Mac Os for compatibility and convenience.

If you are looking for more than just the basic media players, then reward yourself after downloading your jams with a decent Audio/Video player. Windows-media-player or iTunes, may be the two strongest audio/video players out. With many different options that are quite amazing. If for some reason you do not like Windows Media Player or iTunes, or you just want a new player for the sake of being original. Choose any one of these great players for free. A list of good players are; Jet Audio, VLC Media player, or Music Match. No matter what your genre is. Whether it is Jazz, Rock, Classical, Pop etc, these players all have preset EQ settings to compliment your listening preference. They also have different options for both visual and audio effects. There are so many audio effects to compensate for the type of room you are in, all the way to the amount of bass you hear.

However, if you are planning to use your PC for more advanced operations such as studio recording etc, you will want more reliable, high end music production software with the capabilities of audio ripping and sound editing. If your budget is tight there are still many programs available to you for free. These programs include: N-track studio, MIDI Maestro, Chord Composer, MusiGenesis, and VF160EX Fostex digital recorder.

No longer will you need to be out of the loop with music chats, use these tips and before you know it you will be answering the questions and leading the discussions.
